The Biber submarine was intended to sneak past naval defenses to implement surprise attacks. The midget submarine was mostly used near France to prevent the Allies from getting supplies. The Biber was hardly ever used and even when it was, the success was minimal.

In order to replace aircraft lost in battle the HMS Audacity would supply replacement aircraft for the bigger fleets. Because of this escort aircraft carrier ships were able to stay out at sea longer than their opponents.
